2023 Pepprers and Tomatoes in the propagator

April 15, 2023

Most of the plants that really need to start indoors have been started, sprouted, and moved to the propagator tubs. The peppers were started almost two months ago but most of the tomatoes have only been planted a month.

The pictures show several varieties of both peppers and tomatoes. Right now I’m pretty much treating them all the same. If you look really closely at the edge of the net pots you will see silver dots and dashes that will let me know what variety they are later.

I actually have two tubs going right now with a capacity of 70 net pots. the picture below shows plants that have been in the propagator for about a week.. You can see the roots hanging down into the quarter strength nutrients. It’s amazing how fast they grow at this stage.

The picture below shows plants that have been in the nutrients for about 2 weeks. A week ago I bumped up the nutrient strength to about half strength. They could probably handle full strength now.

Peppers are on the left, tomatoes (that were planted a month later) are already dwarfing them. On problem of having a mix of plants is lighting. With LED lights you want the light as close as possible to the plants but it’s not great to have them touching. Things aren’t exactly level in the properties but the lights dont have to be either.
